so you have something that gets you into waves easily, generates speed in the small stuff, yet will still hold in on the bigger/ punchier days

Hey Todd,
I have talked to you a couple times in the past
about shaping me a board but I just never got the
funds. Well got to ask you some question about
shaping a new board. So well last time I wrote you I
was surfing jersey but now I live in Carlsbad. I
would like to know what you would recommend for me. So
what Im looking for is a shortboard thats going to
make me progress rather then get angry and pissed. So
I’m about 6′0 tall and about 205 pounds but definetly
not fat almost a sunny garcia built. big shoulders
and smaller waist. So its always been hard for me to
find boards..

I’v been looking at boards like the Channel island
black beauty and so forth. I had been surfing at a
intermediate level but its been abut two years. So im
looking for a good shortboard to bring me back in the
picutre that can hang in CA winter swell as well as
weak stuff. Im currently and for the last few years
been surfing a 6′4 KG fish. I just want something more
updated and high performance. So shoot let me know
what would be a good board. If you have any other
questions ask.

Thanks man hoping to hear form you

Hi Sjoerd,
Your main design issues are going to be the right amount of volume in your board and the proper rocker/ bottom curve…..so you have something that gets you into waves easily, generates speed in the small stuff, yet will still hold in on the bigger/ punchier days - a versatile all-around performance shortboard. This is the Groveler IV model. The area where you live now, especially with winter coming on, is an area where your “go to board” needs to be a more progressive performance shortboard shape….but most importantly one that is custom tuned properly for you. So here’s what I think is going to be the magic - 6′6″ - 6′8″ x 20″ x 2 3/4″ Groveler IV.p model. This is my most versatile performance shortboard for the variety of waves we get here in California. You need something current that is going to tap into and harness the waves energy and let you run free and fast.
Please feel free to ask any other questions you may have.
I know you would be stoked on a magic Groveler IV.p.
Looking forward to your reply,
Aloha,

Todd
