Shaping Surfboards: Discussions with surfers and surf board shaper – Anything in the Deep Double?
Hello Todd,
I wanted to know if you are working on your own version of a deep double high performance model that will be the next step up from the deeper single set-ups that seem to be so popular? I saw something on Greg Webber’s site and the board/design(deep double concave) seems like it would be a lot of fun so I just wanted to know if you were doing something like it since I would rather give you the business of course.
I know you are busy Todd and I do appreciate you taking the time out,
Zach

Hi Zach,
I actually have a double concave design that I developed over ten years ago. It is a neat design concept and works very well…..really drivey and forgiving. I don’t think it will make all other designs obsolete or anything like that, but it gives the board a free-running feel under your feet; less of a start and stop type of thing that a lot of concaves can have. Then again, a lot of people like that feel of concaves that grab and hold onto the wave face, in which they have to push on the tail or jam that rail down to yank ‘em through and drive out of turns ……kind of a technical breakdown, but maybe you know what I mean….suffice it to say, the double concaves
ride different than that….they ride very smooth would be the best way to put it.
So, I am familiar with the doubles and did a ton of them years ago….not as many now, but that isn’t because it’s not a great design. I actually made one for a guy named Ross Williams who was on tour a few years back and he was really stoked on it.
Feel free to ask any other questions you may have.
I know you would be stoked on the double concave monster…..and I’d be happy to make one for you.
Looking forward to your reply,
Aloha,
Todd
